Threatened American Fishing

2005/03/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

The bad policy of regulating fisheries has led American researchers to claim that there are endangered species. With current standards, anglers tend to fish the oldest and largest fish. But this has negative consequences.

Old fish are essential for fish stocks. They care much better for larvae than young fish. In addition, larvae grown by the elderly are older. For this reason, fishing carried out so far has caused serious damage to some populations and researchers fear that the damage cannot be repaired.
