These glasses have been developed at the University of Arizona. No, they are not very beautiful, but they are innovative. In fact, researchers have not made a great effort in aesthetics and design, but in optics. It has tried to create a new glass to replace two spotlights glasses.

And that's the result: electronic liquid crystals able to change the focus. As age increases, the outer layer of the eye loses flexibility, making it difficult to shift focus from distant objects to closest ones. To solve it people use bifocal glasses, especially from a certain age.

The new glass has the ability to adapt the focus. To achieve this, between two layers of simple glass has one of liquid crystal. This central layer, for its part, has transparent tiny electrodes in concentric circles, which are responsible for controlling the optical characteristics of the crystal.

The change of focus requires less than a second and works at low voltage. In addition, when removing the tension, it loses the ability to change the focus, allowing the glasses with this glass can drive the car.

Previously it has been tried to make similar crystals, but this time the results have been very good, both in simulations and in tests with people. This has been stated by the researchers. However, it is clear that before going to market they have to make some changes.
