Writer Robert Kunzig, editor of Discover magazine, has won this year the Aventis Prize for Scientific Dissemination. His work is the book Mapping the Deep, which explains the scientific point of view of the sea.

Although other names have been used, the Aventis Prize for Scientific Dissemination has been awarded since 1998 and can be considered the most important award in the world in this field. Kunzig received 10,000 pounds at the Museum of Science in London.

In this call, children's scientific books have a special prize. This year the writer Michael Allaby has been imposed with the book Guide to Weather (Weather Guide).

The jury, chaired by Sir David Weatherall of Oxford University, highlighted the book Mapping the Deep: "This book makes the mysteries of the deep sea attractive".

Among other things, he analyzes the influence of the sea on climate and points out that control of the movements and amounts of plankton can change the trend of climate change.
