In 2002, the UPV/EHU obtained revenues of more than 17 million euros in contracts with companies, representing 5% of the total budget of the university. This amount represents 36% more than that obtained by the university in 2001 by the same concept. Last year 533 contracts were signed: 400 companies, 73 public entities and 22 research centers.

Sources from the Vice-Rector of Company-University have indicated that the Basque Government's Science, Technology and Innovation Plan, on the one hand, and healthcare technologies, on the other, have been the reasons for this increase.

The contracts were signed for the development of research projects, technical advice or training courses.
