Shock waves drive new stars

2005/05/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

The waves that occur when the galaxies collide excite the hydrogen, which will form new stars.

Through the ESA Infrared Observatory, the superposition of two galaxies (NGC 4038/4039) has been studied, an area rich in hydrogen molecules. Since there is no other agent, it has been concluded that this group of hydrogen is formed by shock waves.
