Man's passion for knowing Mars is very ancient. It is the fourth planet from the Sun, which by its reddish aspect is called red. Before space exploration, Mars was the most powerful candidate to conserve life. Astronomers looking into the sky saw straight lines across the surface of Mars, so it was thought to be constructions made by someone for years.
