The marmota extends through the Pyrenees


The first marmots entered the Pyrenees in 1948, when a colony was organized with specimens from the Alps. Since then the number of marmots increases and new colonies are constantly found.

The marmots, lacking specific hunters in the Pyrenees and being very adaptable, can spread with fear and cause serious ecological problems in the Pyrenees.
