They have developed in IBM a technology similar to the perforated cards of the past, but that can store much more information. The memory that works with the code that has been called Milipede can store up to 20 times more data than the magnetic memory of current computers, a thermal per square inch, according to IBM. The data is stored in tiny polymer layers as 10-nanometer bites. They can also be removed and used repeatedly. At the moment they do not intend to market this technology, but if they did it would initially serve to replace the flash memory of laptops and mobile phones.
