Meteorite entry into the atmosphere

2001/12/19 Elhuyar Zientzia

The photographs taken this year to the lions have given new information about meteorites. For the first time they have seen the footprint of the gas ball generated by meteorites penetrating the atmosphere.

Measurements indicate that in the impact zone the temperature reaches 4,000°C. In this shock atmospheric molecules extract the molecules from the meteorite and a hot gas cloud forms around the meteorite. They have been able to see and film the light emitted from Earth in this phenomenon, and there they have made public their beautiful photographs.
