Map of memory

2003/03/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

Some researchers are completing the map of the temporal central lobe. In fact, this part of the brain has a lot to do with memory, but its study is not easy, as it is collected in it. Therefore, it is not possible to visualize some important areas through functional magnetic resonance imaging.

But some Californian researchers have managed to overcome the problem: with a method similar to that used by mathematicians to turn the balls of the world into a flat map, they have managed to map the temporal central lobe and see the borders between the spaces.

The research, published in the journal Science, indicates that by storing data in memory, part of the central temporal lobe, the hippocampus, increases the activity of three nuclei. As for data recovery, there is an increase in activity at another point in the hippocampus. That is, when saving and remembering the data in memory, they have seen that the temporal central lobe separates the works.
