After six years of work, archaeologists from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua have unveiled an ancient civilization hitherto unknown.

The site is located on the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua and consists of a village and at least three nearby villages. Monuments, petroglyphs, ceramic works and large stone beams have been found there.
This civilization developed 2,700 years ago and lasted a thousand years. Apparently, it was one of the pre-Classical cultures that the Maya conquered.
The deposits have been taken to archaeologists farther south than they imagined, as so far remains of pre-Classical cultures have been found in northern Central America.
