New President of Max Planck

It cannot be denied that the Max Planck Association and its associated research institutes are basic elements of global scientific and technological progress. Therefore, what happens in this association is important in the culture of our society.

From mid-1990 the Max Planck Association will have a new president. The position of Hans Zacher, to date director of the Max Planck Institute for External and International Social Legislation, will be six years. Zacher is 61 years old and has been one of the pioneers in the study of Social Legislation. In the 41 years of the Association, for the first time the Lehendakari will come from the humanistic branch.

The Max Planck Association is made up of 62 institutes and the annual budget is 1.240 million frames, representing some 74 billion pesetas. Of all these institutes, only ten work in humanistic, while others are dedicated to science and technology.
