Smoking is known to harm our health, but if we analyze Altzeimer's disease the consequence is totally different. Recent research has shown that smokers are at less risk for dementia-related illness.
This disease attacks brain cells and, as we know so far, occurs when proteins are grouped into groups. A group of Ohio researchers recently clarified that nicotine prevents proteins from clustering in groups.
The brains of altzeimer patients are full of protein plaques called b-amyloid. These platelets kill neurons and that is when the disease develops. Nicotine, on the other hand, stimulates the survival of neurons and prevents the formation of platelets.
