45 years of launch of Sputnik 1

Sputnik 1 was the first artificial satellite. The 83.6 kg vessel was put into orbit in the upper layers of the atmosphere on October 4, 1957. Its objectives were to measure atmospheric density and land these data. Sputnik 2 and Spuknik 2 of the same program were released on November 3 and May of the following year, respectively; the program was prepared for four satellites, but one of them did not enter correctly in orbit.
