Swirls, the secret of clouds

2002/04/11 Elhuyar Zientzia

The ridge that leaves the fireplace quickly loses its shape. However, the clouds of cluster remain calm, without needing to undo, expand, disappear into the sky.

Did we know that, no? But the Indian Rama Govindarra, expert in fluid dynamics, has just developed a program to simulate the behavior of clouds and discover why. The ridge is formed by gas swirls. As they spin, these swirls penetrate the outside air into the ridge and slowly crumble. In the inner swirls of the clouds there are ringed areas. As the water condenses, these ‘rings’ release heat and spin faster, so the clouds continue calm, calm, peaceful, almost immutable, preventing the entry of outside air.
