The largest full moon of the year

2008/12/12 Lakar Iraizoz, Oihane - Elhuyar Zientzia

Every twenty-eight days we have the opportunity to see the full moon and today, in addition, we can see the largest full moon of the year.

It will not be an optical illusion. In some times of the year we see larger than in others due to the orbit of the Moon. The orbit of the Moon is elliptical, so it is not at the same distance from Earth in all its positions. The distance between the nearest and the farthest position is 50,000 kilometers.

Today, December 12, at four hours to reach the nearest point, the full moon represents 14% more than the full moon we have seen in 2008 and 30% brighter. To see if time behaves well and lets us see!
