Human beings must face a complex environmental emergency that we have provoked in the last century: climate change, loss of biodiversity, pollution, desertification… In this context, it is interesting to promote in the classroom reflections and actions on the climate of sustainability and emergency, taking into account equality, inclusion and social transformation.

Current youth must inevitably be involved in dealing with the emergency. They therefore need an active attitude and a critical vision, and it is essential to reflect on how we can support and support young people to develop their green capacities. Elhuyar has done so in the project “2022-2023 Gluons Table, to inspire young people in the future”. To this end, he organized meetings among experts to discuss sustainability, environmental emergency and education and subsequently published a booklet containing the contents derived from the reflections and works carried out in these meetings: Sustainability studies to inspire young people.

The aim of this brochure is to offer teachers a number of projects and reflections from the point of view of environmental responsibility. It aims to provide inspiration and support to the educational community to become an ally of young people in this process. The leaflet is divided into two sections. The first section presents 20 key ideas to work on sustainability and environmental emergency in the classroom, while the second section contains 20 inspection projects to work on sustainability.

Based on the contents of this leaflet, Elhuyar will teach the summer course of the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea “Research for sustainability, inspiration for young people” in the Miramar Palace of Donostia on 5 September.

Background to the project

The project “2022-2023 Gluones Table, to inspire young people for the future” has its starting point in the project “Gluons Table, for the promotion of the prophesy STEM” and continues with the same objective of influencing the political and technological positioning of young people.
