Japan, two-sided moon

The image is Japeto, one of the satellites orbiting Saturn. Photo taken by the Cassini probe on July 3, 2004.

Japanese-sized is about a third of our Moon. But this is not its most outstanding feature, Japan has surprising colors. In fact, both hemispheres are perfectly separated, one dark and one light. Astronomers don't know what gives it color, but they have stressed that the colors seen in the photo are not the result of shadows. The satellite has that color by nature.
