The future of Hubble

2005/04/26 Roa Zubia, Guillermo - Elhuyar Zientzia

The best-known telescope in the Earth's orbit, Hubble, has worked for fifteen years. He has already made about 750.000 photographs and has explored all corners of the space without interfering with the atmosphere. But perhaps he has given his best. In recent years, NASA technicians are thinking about replacing the telescope. Batteries will run out in 2007 or 2008 and maintenance operations are expensive. According to the budget presented in February, NASA has no intention of extending the telescope's useful life. However, the last decision has not yet been published. Yes, if they decide to keep the telescope there will be something more without money, like the launchers project.
