#Elhuyarren Recommendations: a new initiative underway

From July 2, in addition to updating the dictionaries, we will begin to give some linguistic recommendations through the initiative that we have named as #Elhuyar Recommendations. Among other things, through social networks we will open a criterion or recommendation to write or speak well in Basque, and dictionaries can be consulted in .elhuyar.eus jointly.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made a special effort to provide an updated terminology to people who should write or talk about it, which represents a 38.4% increase in the queries of our dictionaries.

Many times we receive vocabulary queries, suggestions, questions about the correct use of Basque in different ways and try to answer all of them as quickly and satisfactorily as possible, using the available resources.

Since its creation in 1972, Elhuyar has made available to Basque society various linguistic means: dictionaries, spelling and grammar checkers, automatic translators, automatic transcriptors, etc. And here and there we give training sessions for translators and other professionals working in Basque (journalists, teachers…).

Taking advantage of the experience accumulated over the years, we have decided to take a step forward and give recommendations related to the good use of Basque.
