Elhuyar Science, Technology and Innovation Week

This year's Science, Technology and Innovation Week takes place from 12-16 November. The aim of the conference is to bring science to everyone and make it a participant in it. In fact, the award ceremony of the Teknoskopioa Ideas Contest was held this week and is part of the San Sebastian tent.

The Elhuyar and Innobasque Foundation have organized for the fifth consecutive year the Teknoskopioa Ideas Competition, aimed at students of 2nd cycle of ESO, baccalaureate and middle cycles of FP. The award ceremony was held at the Center for Environmental Resources of Cristina Enea Park in Donostia. The winners, their colleagues and teachers, have approached there, and Gaizka Zulaika, director of Gipuzkoa Berritzen, representing Innobasque, Teresa Santos, head of the scientific education programme at Berritzegune Nagusia in the Department of Education of the Basque Government, and Itziar Nogeras, director general of Elhuyar, were present.

This year the participants have had a great challenge: getting in the skin of a superhero who will save the world and create the blog of this superhero: the superblog. In this blog every supereheron has unveiled its powers and actions to save the Earth. In total 110 blogs have been presented, of which 3 have been awarded.

The first prize went to Anais Sánchez, of the Peace College of Ziganda de Villava, for the blog of the superhero Berdundis. Sanchez has received a camcorder for creating the best blog this year. The second winner was Iván Matellanes from Colegio La Anunciata in San Sebastián. The protagonist of the blog of Matellanes has been the superhero Earthman, who has received as a gift a camera of photos. The third prize went to a team formed by Aida, Ainhoa and Talmay of the Bilbao institute Luis Briñas. This group has created the blog of Forestwoman and have received a digital camera gift. All the awards have been offered by Fundación Eroski.

Science Tent

This year the Elhuyar Foundation has two stands in the San Sebastian tent. The Science Communication Department has presented all the projects underway. For the fun of the little ones and not so young, in addition, a Wii game based on the periodic table has been installed for people to play.

AnHitz, virtual expert in science and technology.

In addition, they have presented AnHitz, a virtual expert in science and technology. AnHitz has a person form, but is totally virtual. Find the most appropriate answer to a question you have been asked and you can also search for terms. The project involved the VICOMTech-IK4 and Robotiker-Tecnalia technology centres, the R&D unit of the Elhuyar Foundation and the IXA and Aholkularitza groups of the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU).

In the second stand, the members of Eleka Ingeniaritza Linguistikoa have exhibited several applications created, such as the search engine Elebila, the simultaneous translator Opentrad, and those who have approached have been able to download the dictionary to mobile
