The future plane, the project is made

This is the plane of the future: It is called SAX-40 and has been designed at MIT. It will be a commercial airplane for passengers. They also call it the silent plane, which will be quieter than the plane today, and not only that, but will consume less fuel. Of course, the plane of the future should be more ecological than the current one.

The design of the SAX-40 is completely new, since it has nothing to do with the tubular planes that are today, but has a more compact appearance, the wings and the main body of the plane are almost one. And the engines do not go under the wings, as in the current planes, but at the bottom on the plane.

Thanks to this design, the air is less resistant and needs less fuel, 35% more fuel efficient. And not only that, but the plane will be quieter than the current one. Precisely that was the main objective of the designers, making the plane quieter possible. The project name refers to this: Silent Aircraft Initiative, silent aircraft initiative.

Therefore, with this initiative, the aim is to reduce the noise of airports, noise pollution. The initiative has been developed within MIT, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in the United States.

Decision in the hands of producers

Design realized. Now, only one aircraft manufacturer has to make the design. Probably the production is assumed by one of the two major producing companies, Boeing or Airbus. But both have enough to work each in their kitchen.

The A380 is Airbus's largest passenger plane, but it has not yet secured permission to make commercial flights due, among other things, to turbulence. (Photo: DLR-Institut für Physik der Atmosphäre )

Currently the Boeing 747 is the largest aircraft on the market on commercial trips, at least for now. In fact, Airbus's A380 is bigger, but although it's done, it has trouble getting the flight permit. The A380, among other things, seems to provoke a relatively large turbulence, and in practice, with regard to the traffic of an airport, so that this turbulence does not affect the plane that comes behind, we must leave between both a great distance of time and space. Therefore, it is not as efficient in this regard as producers and flight companies.

It is assumed that while Airbus continues to work with the A380 it will not start working with another aircraft model. And it should be noted that, in general, the entry into production of the SAX-40 will be a very important investment for any aircraft manufacturer. And, since the design is completely new, almost all the pieces of the plane will be new and, therefore, the necessary machinery for its manufacture.

It will not be easy for aircraft manufacturers to start producing a new design, as they will have to make large investments in infrastructure.
Silent Aircraft Initiative

It is no coincidence that all current commercial aircraft have a similar appearance, that is, a tubular body (fuselage), retracted wings on both sides and engines under the wings. In fact, for planes of different sizes almost the same pieces are used, the length of the tube is the one that is most modified. The infrastructure used in the production is similar for all aircraft models. And not just that. The producing companies try to make the most of the aircraft models they sell.

Therefore, the new aircraft design will still have to overcome many obstacles until aircraft manufacturers intervene. According to the MIT calculation, the year 2030 will be at least the silent plane SAX-40 to start commercial flights.
